This course introduces you to the economics and concepts of the shipping industry. A particular focus will be on the structures of liner shipping and the characteristics of tramp shipping/ship chartering in a digital age. During the course, you become familiar with the major shipping markets, their concepts, procedures and technologies, you will discuss different aspects of chartering, each from their own practical experience.
After having completed the course you are able to describe and analyse maritime supply chains for bulk and containerised shipments. You can work with the concept of liner and tramp shipping (chartering) and apply those concepts for relevant use cases. Also you can reflect socio-economic and environmental impacts and judge the implications of an efficient organisation of sea-borne trade. Finally you have developed a set of analytical tools and costing models to make maritime transport capacity available for your own organization.
